Cryo General Recommendations
The Cryo air intake filter (metal screen on back of unit) needs 12” to 18” of free space to effectively draw room air. Do not place Cryo unit up against a wall or curtain that may restrict air flow and reduce cooling efficiency. Do not operate unit near a heat source. Laser device heat outflow and or heating ducts may generate heat that if located close to the Cryo air intake will reduce performance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Please read the FAQs below as you will find many of the basic questions answered here.
1. What is the difference between the Cryo 5, the Cryo 6 and the Cryo Mini?
The Cryo 5 was our original Cold Air Device, highly reliable and effective, ultimately replaced by the Cryo 6 in 2008. Upgrade programs are available. (FAQs)
The Cryo 6 offers a flat useable work area, 9 fan speeds, and very quiet operation. The Cryo 6 units create a stream of cold air @ -30C (-22F) that is delivered to the treatment area via a flexible treatment hose. (FAQs)
The Cryo Mini is designed for shorter procedures (less than 15 minutes). It is smaller than the Cryo 5 or 6 and has a reduced cooling capacity, capable of creating a stream of cold air @ -12C (+10F). The Cryo 6 has a two year limited warranty. The Cryo Mini has one year limited warranty. (FAQs)
2. How do I know if my Cryo unit is still under warranty?
We will be happy to determine if your unit is still under warranty. Please look on the back of the unit (near the power cord) for your serial number and call us, we can then determine the age of your unit. If it is still under warranty, we will coordinate service for you that may involve us sending a loaner device or in selected instances dispatching a local service technician. Devices that are no longer under warranty may be returned to Zimmer MedizinSystems for service. You will be responsible for the shipping charges, shipping container (if you no longer have the original) as well as parts and labor. Please call our Cryo Support to discuss service options. For an additional fee a loaner unit can be made available. (FAQs)
3. What if my Cryo unit is not under warranty?
You may choose to find a local service technician. If requested, we can assist them with troubleshooting advice and telephone service support for the flat fee of $125 per hour. Service parts lists may be found in the service manual. (FAQs)
4. Which Cryo is the right device for me?
Contact our sales professionals and we'll help you determine which unit best fits your needs. Please call us toll free at (800) 327-3576. (FAQs)
5. My Cryo barely blows any air or no air at all?
Remove the air hose from the unit to determine if air is flowing from the unit. If so, then your hose needs to be replaced. If not then you will need to defrost the unit. Please refer to the users manual for the appropriate device for complete instructions. If this doesn't resolve the problem then you likely have a problem that requires service. (FAQs)
6. My Cryo does not come out of precooling mode?
Turn off the power switch on the back of the unit. Ensure that the treatment room air temperature is below 80 degrees. Restart your Cryo and if it once again fails to come out of the precooling mode then you likely have a problem that requires service. Possibly the cooling circuit/power supply may need repair or replacement. (FAQs)
7. Do I put water in the container?
You never need to add water to your Cryo unit. You do need to empty the water container weekly. Adding a few drops of household bleach to the empty water container may help keep the bucket clean. All Cryo units dehumidify air as they cool. Water condenses and is collected in the water bucket located inside the unit. See user manual for your Cryo model emptying instructions. (FAQs)
8. What kind of maintenance should I perform on the Cryo?
It is recommended that the unit be vacuumed weekly and the water emptied weekly. Simply vacuum the metal mesh filter in place on the back of the unit (DO NOT REMOVE). This filter is the air intake and keeping it clean greatly enhances the Cryo’s service life. (FAQs)
9. I just purchased a used cryo from a private party. How do I order a user manual?
Users manuals are included with all new Cryo sales. Please call our Cryo Support. (FAQs)
10. How can I have my Cryo serviced?
There are a variety of service options. Please call our service department at (800) 327-3576 for specific details. (FAQs)
11. How much freon goes in the unit?
It depends upon the model of the device. Generally speaking freon does not need to be “recharged” unless a leak in the cooling circuit is detected. Only certified refrigeration repair staff can add freon. Call our of service department for more specific information at (800) 327-3576. (FAQs)
12. What pressure reading should I receive with the freon?
This question depends upon the model of the unit. Please call our service department at (800) 327-3576 for basic information or you may purchase the appropriate service manual on our site (www.zimmerusa.com). (FAQs)
13. How do I reset the Filter Icon on my Cryo 5?
Turn off the Cryo 5 on the back on/off switch. Then hold down the start/stop button while at the same time turning on the on/off switch. (FAQs)
14. Why is my Cryo Mini beeping?
The Cryo Mini is designed for shorter procedures. If used for longer procedures you may be alerted that the unit is unable to maintain an appropriate cold air temperature and needs to be placed in standby mode. Once the unit has been able to recool it will be available for further service. Higher fan speeds will reduce the cooling capacity of the Cryo Mini more quickly. (FAQs)
15. Can I increase or decrease the temperature?
The Cryo units were designed to create a constant air temperature (subject to environmental and service variables). The fan up and fan down buttons are designed to only increase and decrease the air flow rate. (FAQs)
